YAA’s tryout approach looks beyond a highlight or a single scoring performance. Skills, physical readiness, game understanding, competitive behaviour and coachability all contribute to understanding a player’s current level and development needs.
01A rounded view of the player
Measurements and skill work are combined with competitive play. Evaluators consider decision making, communication, effort, response to feedback and contribution to a team.
02Structured assessment
Consistent evaluation criteria help coaches compare observations and discuss fit. The aim is to make selection purposeful and connect observations to a development plan.
03The next step
A tryout is a starting point for a conversation about readiness, commitments and goals. Participation does not guarantee selection; the appropriate pathway depends on the player and the programme.
