Damon D. Allison brings together youth basketball coaching, education, recruiting and leadership development. Across his career, his focus has been helping young people build the skills, habits and confidence to move forward—on the court and in life.
Seventeen years in youth basketball
Damon spent 17 years in AAU basketball, including recruiting, scouting and head coaching with the Michigan Mustangs in the Adidas basketball environment. His work combines talent identification with the patient, everyday teaching that helps prospects become prepared competitors.
Developing players and understanding their pathway
His Michigan Mustangs coaching connected him with high-level prospects including Monte Morris and Derrick Walton Jr. Basketball reporting documents his coaching of both players and his continued mentoring as they moved into college. His AAU work also placed him in Isaiah Livers’s recruiting journey, while his employer’s profile credits his development work with Xavier Tillman. These experiences inform his approach to evaluating players, understanding team fit and supporting the transition to a more demanding level.
An educator before everything else
Damon’s professional background includes 15½ years as a public-school teacher. Teaching shapes how he coaches: explain the purpose, create opportunities to practise, listen to the learner and make growth a process. Basketball becomes a setting for learning responsibility, communication and resilience.
Recruiting and leadership beyond the court
His professional recruiting work has covered Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. At Zeigler Auto Group, he developed an internal leadership programme using practical projects, guest speakers, job shadowing, podcast discussions and a book club. That experience brings a structured approach to developing people, connecting mentorship with activities participants can put into practice.
The Next Possession
Whether the last play was a made shot, a missed opportunity or a setback outside your control, the next possession still needs your attention. Damon uses this principle to explore adversity, discipline, confidence, accountability and leadership. His aim is to hold meaningful conversations that young people can carry beyond basketball, helping them respond constructively when life does not go to plan.
Youth Development Director at YAA
As Youth Development Director, Damon brings his coaching and educational perspective to the Young Athletes Association ecosystem. His focus connects Elite Athlete Academy with Beyond All Limits Clinics & Camps and development experiences around ENCORE. Working alongside founder August de Koning, he supports a shared ambition: develop the athlete, empower the person and build opportunities that have lasting value.
A connection between communities
Damon’s vision includes inviting former players, coaches and relationships from the United States into future camps and development experiences. Coach exchange, mentoring and leadership conversations can help European athletes encounter different perspectives while keeping their own development goals at the centre.
